Conservative Restoration with Inlays and Onlays

At Magnolia Family Dental, our goal isn’t just to treat your smile, but to preserve it by only recommending restorations that help you retain a maximum amount of natural tooth structure. Inlays and onlays, also known as partial dental crowns, help Dr. Johnson-G’Sell save more of your natural smile by offering a more conservative option than full dental crowns. Unlike a crown, an inlay or onlay doesn’t require Dr. Johnson-G’Sell to prepare your whole tooth, only the area of your tooth that needs to be restored.

The Benefits of Partial Crowns

A full dental crown is designed to fit completely over your tooth, which is why your tooth needs to be altered to accommodate it. However, partial crowns only cover a portion of the tooth. Inlays can be placed inside the crevices of your tooth’s chewing surface, and onlays can extend over one or more of the tooth’s cusps. By not modifying the whole tooth, partial crowns offer the benefit of supporting your healthy tooth structure, which improves your chances of better dental health in the future.
